Chandelier in the bedroom interior - functional decor

For the bedroom interior, a chandelier is not an easy lighting fixture, it is a decorative element, often acting as the only decoration of the image of the room. The modern style of space design tends to simplicity and conciseness, to the minimum use of decorative elements. Therefore, very often, a beautiful, original, luxurious or simply unusual chandelier appears as decoration of the sleeping space. At first glance, it might seem that choosing a central lamp for the bedroom is not difficult - you go to the store and purchase goods that you liked more than other options. But there are some nuances that affect the choice of a chandelier. We will talk about them in this publication.

Criteria for choosing a chandelier for the bedroom

Not only your personal preferences in the design of the lighting device and financial possibilities dictate the choice of a chandelier, but also the following criteria:

  • the size of the room and the height of the ceiling (the larger the room, the larger the chandelier you can choose for its lighting, the height of the ceiling has a direct effect on the choice of a pendant or ceiling model of the lamp);
  • the location of the recreation area - even in a small room, you can install a hanging chandelier with hanging decorative elements if you mount it above the foot of the bed, for example (it all depends on the shape of the room and its layout);
  • bedroom interior design;
  • the color palette of the room (in this case there can be two options for the color solutions of the chandelier - either it is an accent of the interior and stands out against the general background, or corresponds to the general gamut of space);
  • the power of the lighting device will also depend on the scale of the room (for a bedroom it is best to purchase a chandelier with the ability to control power, even two options for setting the lighting intensity will allow you to create the desired atmosphere of a bedroom);
  • choosing a chandelier by the type of material from which it is made, it is important to keep in mind not only the stylistic design of the room and the correspondence of the design of the lamp to the general concept, but also the type of bulbs that will be used for it (we will consider this issue in more detail below);
  • a harmonious combination with other room lighting fixtures (most often the bedroom equipment is not enough for a chandelier, especially if the room has a working area, the lamps on the bedside tables or above them should also correspond to the general idea of the execution of all devices).

Types of chandeliers for rooms of different sizes and stylistic design

If we talk about the method of mounting the chandelier, then all lighting devices of this type are divided into pendant (suspension chandeliers) and ceiling. From the name it is clear that the ceiling chandelier is attached directly to the ceiling and is a very compact version of the equipment of a room of small size or with low ceilings with the necessary level of illumination. The ceiling lamp can be made in the form of a composition of plafonds with bulbs and decorative elements located on one "base", attached directly to the ceiling. There are a lot of options for the execution of such models.

A pendant chandelier is a lamp made of one or more shades that are attached to a cord, string or chain. It is this intermediate link between the ceiling surface and the lighting elements directly that allows you to adjust the height of the device and its appearance. A pendant chandelier can be compact, consisting of one lampshade, or it can be a whole complex of different elements - the imagination of designers in this case has no boundaries.

If we talk about the separation of chandeliers from the point of view of the material of execution, then in this case the choice is much richer. The lamp frame can be made of metal, wood, plastic, glass and a combination of these materials. But for the execution of plafonds and decorative elements, in addition to the materials listed, a variety of options can be used - fabric, paper, vine, rattan, bamboo and even raw materials for recycling. Design chandeliers can be a difficult original lighting fixture, and act as an art object.

Chandeliers with a metal frame and candle-like lamps are similar to lighting fixtures, with which the history of the appearance of these types of pendant lamps began - the light plaque of the Middle Ages makes them an excellent option for decorating traditional interiors and an accent element in modern design.

From the point of view of stylistic performance, the most popular are classical chandeliers. These are various variations on the theme of a pendant lamp with several slots for bulbs, often imitating candles, with many decorative elements. It is such a hanging device that many of us imagine at the word "chandelier". It is not surprising that for many decades the classic chandelier has not lost its popularity. The optimal combination of beauty and functionality, performed in a variety of different decor and color options to meet the needs of a wide variety of customer categories.

A classic chandelier can transform the simplest, most unpretentious interior. It can become the only decorative element of the interior, while regularly performing its main function. It is important only to correctly select the size of the lighting fixture, which will allow the room to be modest in size larger, and will look organic in a spacious room.

One of the varieties of the classic chandelier is a floral style model. Any use of plant motifs - leaves, flowers, twigs, buds, allows you to create original and at the same time attractive models of chandeliers. Such a chandelier can be either the only interior item using floral themes and act as an accent, or be supported in other elements, for example, the colors of the textiles on the windows or the drapery of a sleeping place.

Art Nouveau chandeliers are usually called many options for the execution of fixtures, the design of which is contrasted with the classic. It can be both laconic designs with the simplest shades, without decor, or elaborate models using the original material or the method of its application. Such chandeliers will look organically in a bedroom decorated in a modern style, minimalism, contemporary, loft.

A certain niche in the model range of chandeliers for bedrooms is occupied by lamps made in an eco-style. The main feature of such lighting devices is the use of natural materials, the dominant among which is wood, and of natural motifs performed. Such chandeliers will organically look not only in the bedrooms of country houses. Within the framework of urban housing, it is also possible to successfully integrate original eco-style lamps, especially since an increasing number of modern trends in the field of residential space design are striving to use environmentally friendly materials.

Types of lamps for modern fixtures

Incandescent lamps - the most inefficient type to date. Their use can only be explained by the love of many buyers for a bright, intense light that fills the entire room with warmth. But low efficiency in terms of energy saving will soon lead to the disappearance of this type of lamp from the modern market. Such bulbs are inexpensive, but, in addition to high energy consumption, they have another significant drawback - they are very hot in the process, which can lead to heating of synthetic, paper and other elements of the decor of the lamp.

Halogen lamps - bright and efficient in terms of energy consumption. This type of light bulb is currently popular. The only drawback of such lighting elements is the cold glow. If such a glow can be allowed to illuminate the hallway, kitchen and even the living room, then most of us would like to create a warm, cozy atmosphere of relaxation and rest in the bedroom. In any case, the cool glow of halogen lamps can be “softened” by the material of the ceiling lights of the chandelier.

Fluorescent lamps - from the point of view of the produced glow, this type is similar to halogen bulbs. Cool light also limits the use in the bedroom space as an attribute of open fixtures, without shades and lampshades. The lamps do not heat up during operation, their use is possible in chandeliers made of any materials.

LED bulbs - are also energy efficient. Their advantage is that they are available with a variety of lighting options. Elements also do not heat up during operation.

Bedroom lighting

Of course, in the bedroom the chandelier appears, first of all, as a decorative element and its appearance is of great importance. But it is important not to forget about the original purpose of the lamp - lighting the space of the bedroom. And in this case, it is important to choose the power of light. After all, everyone knows that the low light of the room creates a soporific effect, and the strong one - exciting and even annoying. It is important to find a middle ground.

When calculating the intensity of lighting a room, it will be necessary to take into account several indicators:

  • type of light source;
  • its declared power (experts always advise to purchase a lighting device with a power reserve);
  • number of lamps and their type;
  • the material from which the shades and lampshades are made (if any);
  • location of shades (do they spread light up or down);
  • the color palette of the room (the main role is played by the color of the walls).

The main indicator will be the power of the lighting device. In the standard version, this value is in the range from 15 to 25 watts per 1 square meter of floor space. But in this case, there are some nuances. If the walls of the bedroom are decorated in light and even white colors, then the power can be reduced, because the light will be well reflected from vertical surfaces.

Among other things, experts recommend using in all living rooms, and the bedroom was no exception, ambient light. This means that a chandelier with uplights turned upside down will be an ideal option (although it must be recognized that caring for such a device is a little more difficult - dust settles in the bowl lights, sometimes small insects). But the visual effect of expanding the space, which can be achieved only by using a suitable lighting device, is worth spending a little more time on cleaning.

Chandelier design color scheme

Since Soviet times, many of us have been familiar with the image of the “standard” chandelier at that time - the same type of solution made of transparent plastic, which was popularly called the “crystal chandelier”. The times when approximately the same lighting fixtures could be seen in each apartment have long passed. The range of chandeliers in modern stores is overwhelming, which can lead to confusion even for a buyer who clearly represents the subject of purchase. But a wide selection is also an opportunity to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding customers.

In terms of choosing the color of the lighting fixture, there are two ways that the master of the bedroom can follow. The first option is a color scheme that corresponds to the general palette of the room and is in harmony with it. The second way is a contrasting, accent solution that allows the chandelier not only to stand out against the general background, but also to become the main subject of interior decoration. But there is an “intermediate” solution - the choice of a chandelier, the basis of the elements of which are translucent material (glass, crystal and spectacularly made plastic). Such a lighting device will not come into conflict with any of the elements of the interior, but it will not draw attention to itself.

A dark and even black chandelier made of glass or metal will look luxurious in a bedroom with a bright interior. Of course, in this case, the lamp becomes the focal point of the room, its main emphasis. In a small room, it is better to use a similar dark color spot once. If you need to visually increase the height of the ceilings, then a dark color, along with a light version of the ceiling and walls, is best used in the floor covering (decoration or carpet).

If you choose a chandelier with decorative elements of different colors, then you need to take care of combinatorics with other interior items. The color of the elements of the lamp can be repeated in the textile decoration of the bedroom - drapery of windows or a berth, upholstery of additional furniture or even carpet.
