A garage is a kind of creative brainchild for a man. Often he performs several functions at once - and parking, and a workshop, and a pantry, and even a place to relax a friendly company. The arrangement of the garage is a purely male occupation, but, like in every work, there are also tricks and nuances here. Let's talk about this in more detail.

Wall decoration

When choosing finishing materials for a garage, one should take into account the target features of this room. Materials must be non-combustible, since the fuel and lubricants that accumulate in the garage are primarily moisture resistant, resistant to damage and not absorbing dirt. What meets these requirements?

PVC wall paneling. In a garage with a large area, you can afford PVC plastic panels. Such installation takes about 10 centimeters of space, but thanks to such a reserve, you can insulate the walls of the garage with mineral fire-resistant cotton wool.

The front lining is waterproof, environmentally friendly, fireproof and presentable, but does not have high strength. However, on the other hand, with such a finish your car does not face scratches. To give the room a color variety, alternate panels with different shades or use a lining with a simple print.

Plaster. A mortar of a mixture of sand and cement smoothes out the visible roughness of the walls. After grouting the roughness, it is necessary to apply a layer of facade paint. If the garage is very compact and there is only a little free space around the car, try painting the walls with pastel, warm colors - this will visually expand the boundaries of the room. However, in such a garage you need to be doubly careful, as light surfaces will quickly become dirty.

Facing brick and tile. Today, this is perhaps the best option for decoration. Such materials are durable and durable, quite easy to clean. Ceramic tiles have a large specific gravity, unlike facing bricks, therefore, it is necessary to finish it only with strong walls, where there is additional packing of the reinforcing mesh.

There is another caveat when buying these materials - this is the price. Indeed, the cost of such finishes can significantly “hit” in the pocket. But the result will exceed all expectations. For example, a combination of walls decorated in frame brick and a spectacular thematic panel with a luxurious car laid out with small tiles will make an incredible impression on your friends.

Floor finish

The floor in garages is exactly the surface that is always in operation. Therefore, it must constantly withstand heavy loads from the car and heavy objects accidentally dropped out of the hands. In this case, not a single chip and crack should form on the floor. The requirements for fire and moisture resistance, of course, above all. Usually a modern garage floor is layered.

A self-leveling sand-based concrete mass with a reinforced mesh in the upper layer and waterproofing is the practical and most frequently used option for garage floors.

Paving on a sandy-gravel dense pillow or road pavers is stronger, but slightly more expensive than concrete. For additional moisture resistance of the paving stones, impregnants are used (special impregnations having a water-repellent effect).

An alternative to concrete mixes is flexible polyurethane, epoxy or acrylic resins. Shockproof floor tiles lined with black and white checkers will look very stylish.

To avoid slipping, the tile should be slightly rough. It’s better not to buy a tile with any pattern, since over time it will be very worn out and look completely aesthetically.

Racks and shelves in the arrangement of the garage

Often, among many suitcases, mezzanines, bicycles, there’s even nowhere to park a car, not to mention sitting in the evening in a pleasant friendly male company. Therefore, important details in the arrangement of the garage are not only the floor and walls, but also racks and hanging shelves for storing tools, household items and auto parts.

A frame metal shelving unit located along the wall (and if the room area allows it, you can put a U-shaped shelving unit for three walls), as a true friend, will help to separate the necessary from the secondary. But first of all, it is necessary to audit the accumulated things and only then make accurate measurements of the width, length and depth of the structure.

The depth of standard designs in a hardware store is usually up to 1 meter, but this is often not enough, so many motorists prefer custom-made racks. In this case, the depth must be determined based on the size of the largest item that will stand on the shelf of the rack. It can be a big suitcase, tires, etc. In order not to accumulate a lot of dirt, dust and moisture, it is better to drill small holes in the shelves. So, tools do not rust and do not dust.

Leaving the distance between the floor and the bottom shelf of the rack about 30 centimeters, you will greatly simplify the wet cleaning of the garage, which now will not take much time.

When assembling a frame rack, it is better to use a metal corner (30 by 30 mm) on bolted joints or a profiled pipe. Of course, you can apply welding, but it is not always profitable and convenient. Aluminum profiles for drywall are also not suitable, due to their lack of strength.

An excellent material for shelves is moisture-proof plywood. It does not absorb moisture, is strong and durable. For enhanced protection, plywood can be varnished. Do not make the shelves of the rack too long, since plywood can bend.

Of course, racks and shelves can be purchased at any specialized store, but such a purchase will cost you dearly.
