Simple rules of reproduction of anthurium leaf. How to carry out the procedure at home?

Anthurium is a plant popular among gardeners with beautiful leaves, bright flowers, and flowering lasts almost all year round.

This decorative culture will become a real decoration of the interior and the pride of the owners of the house.

Many people ask questions: is it possible to propagate anthurium with leaf and seeds, and which of the two methods to choose? In the article we will talk about the first method, which is popular with flower growers because of its simplicity.

Advantages and disadvantages of the method

This method of reproduction has the following advantages:

  • comfortable;
  • quick;
  • plain;
  • can be used for all types of plants, even for those who do not ripen the seeds.

As for the disadvantages of this method, it is one - it is the presence of a certain experience in rooting the leaf. For a young plant, it is important to comply with the conditions of detention, properly prepare the material for planting, select soil and pot.

The best season for the procedure

It is necessary to propagate the anthurium leaf in the spring, from March to May. It is possible to carry out the separation of leaf cuttings at the end of winter, but in the dormant period, when the buds for reproduction are not yet ripe, it is impossible to transplant.

Land preparation

As a soil mixture for anthurium, a special composition for epiphytes or aroid ones is suitable. You can also use the substrate for orchids, just add a little charcoal and sod land to it.

You can prepare the soil mixture yourself using the following recipes:

  1. Take: 3 parts of leaf humus, 1 part of fertile turf, 1 part of perlite.
  2. Mix: coniferous, soddy ground, peat, fine river sand, charcoal and coniferous bark (10: 10: 10: 5: 2: 5).
  3. In equal quantities, mix peat, coconut fiber and chopped sphagnum moss.
The soil mixture for planting anthurium must be disinfected, as this will destroy various harmful bacteria and fungal spores. It is better to disinfect in the oven for 30 minutes.

Pot selection

200-300 ml cups are suitable for young plants or plastic glasses. As you grow, you will need to purchase a pot with a diameter of 5 cm. It is better to choose a container made of plastic rather than ceramic, since the roots will not overheat or supercool.

Preparing planting material

To cut the sheet, you must use a sharp knife, which was previously disinfected with alcohol. It is not worth taking a leaf from a very small outlet or the bottom, since it does not have enough strength to form new sprouts. Cut the material for planting is necessary with the upper part of the branch, the length of which is 3 cm. After that, roll the leaf with a tube and fix it with a thread.

How to propagate at home?

The process of planting an anthurium leaf is as follows:

  1. Place the leaf folded into a tube in the prepared soil so that 1/3 of the stem remains above the ground.
  2. Cover the container with a sheet with a glass jar or polyethylene.
  3. Set the pot in a darkened and warm room.
  4. Every day you need to ventilate the mini-greenhouse and spray the sheet with the soil with water from the spray gun.

How to care after planting?

Temperature mode

From autumn to winter in the room where the anthurium is located, it is necessary to maintain a temperature regime of 20-25 degrees heat. Higher air temperatures can be, as the plant tolerates heat well. If the indicators drop below, then the growth of the crop will stop, and the lower leaves will fade.

From early December to mid-January, lower the temperature to 18 degrees, and after to 16 degrees. In addition, in winter it is necessary to illuminate the plant with special lamps that can compensate for the lack of heat.

Watering

Watering the sprout is not necessary often, but abundantly. If water accumulates at the bottom of the tank, you must wait until it evaporates. Excess fluid contributes to the development of the fungus, which harms the root system.

For watering, you need to use water at a temperature of 25-30 degrees. It will have to be preliminarily defended in 2-3 days so that harmful impurities precipitate. You can use rainwater or thawed snow, pre-heated.

Fertilizer

It is necessary to apply top dressing 2 times a month, using mineral and organic compounds. In March-April, when the growing season begins, and new leaves and inflorescences are formed on the bush, it is recommended to add nutrition to the soil intended for decorative and deciduous plant species.

Pine chips or bark, some charcoal and moss are allowed to be introduced into the soil. From mineral top dressing, Ideal and Kemira are very effective. If there is no desire to mess with liquid dressings, then granular ones can be used, which slowly dissolve and regularly nourish the young plant.

From May to the end of September, it is recommended to use preparations intended for decorative flowering plants:

  • Uniflor bud.
  • Fertica Suite.
  • Agricola.

What to do if the plant does not take root?

If the anthurium does not survive, then this occurs for the following reasons:

  • incorrectly selected soil;
  • gulf of soil;
  • pests.

Simply correct your mistakes and try again to grow a beautiful, strong and abundantly flowering plant. Anthurium at home is most often propagated with a leaf, because it is quick and easy. In most cases, difficulties arise after planting a leaf, when it is difficult for gardeners to create full-fledged conditions of maintenance and properly care for a young and immature plant.
