Habitat

Anthuriums come from the humid and hot tropical forests of Central and South America. Their habitat extends from Mexico to Paraguay and Argentina.

How to care at home?

  • Temperature. This flower is very thermophilic. For the greatest comfort, you need to maintain the temperature in the range of 20-25 ° C.

Important: Plants must not be kept near heating systems.

  • Watering. Anthuriums are watered a little (once a week), but you should make sure that the earth in the pot does not dry out, since a lack of moisture can cause leaf wilting.

It is still necessary to maintain air humidity of about 85-95%. To do this, you can use electric humidifiers or cover the soil with ordinary moss. You can still spray the anthurium with water, but it is important to leave the bedspreads and buds dry.

  • Shine. This plant does not like direct sunlight, and therefore the eastern and western windows will be the most comfortable for anthurium.
  • Priming. Loose and light soil is required. An affordable and at the same time suitable mixture has the following composition: flower soil and coniferous bark in a ratio of 1: 1. You can add useful components to it, for example, charcoal, sphagnum moss, expanded clay or coconut shavings.
  • Pruning.

    1. Inspect the plant. Thick cut side shoots, wilted stems, leaves and flowers are usually cut.
    2. Start pruning from the top of the plant.
    3. During healing, spray the flower with water.
    4. Trimming should be done at an angle.
  • Top dressing. It is necessary to feed the plant once every 2-3 weeks, it is especially important to do this before flowering. Nitrogen-containing additives are good.
  • Pot. A good option is a high and narrow capacity. The pot must have water drainage holes. When transplanting, a container is always taken a few centimeters larger than the previous one. If the pot is old, then it must be decontaminated by washing with soap and doused with boiling water.
  • Transfer. The first transplant occurs immediately after purchase. A mature plant is transplanted every two years.

    1. Moisten the soil in the pot the day before the transplant. So it will be easier to extract a plant with a lump of earth without damaging the roots.
    2. Carefully extract the plant.
    3. Carefully inspect the roots for parasites. If they are found, it is worth treating the roots with a special tool.
    4. Pour drainage into a new pot, then sphagnum moss, then mix soil.
    5. Put the flower in the center, carefully spreading its roots in different directions. Cover the roots on the surface with moss.
  • Wintering. Watering should be even more moderate than usual at this time of year. It is enough to water the flower once a week and a half. It is necessary to give anthurium a break from feeding. The temperature should be maintained at least 17 ° C.

Important: If anthurium has brown spots on the leaves, then the flower is cold. It should increase the temperature by a couple of degrees.

Propagation features of this species

Most often, anthurium is propagated by cuttings: the cuttings are set in wet sand, and then covered with a glass cap. Plants are kept warm and in the light until roots are formed.

When transplanting, several offspring can be separated from the mother plant. They are seated in moist sand and kept in greenhouse conditions. They are waiting for the strengthening of the root system, after - they are seated.

Briefly about diseases and pests

Diseases can be caused by errors in care, or simply parasites. Scabbard and spider mite often attack the plant in low humidity. Excess water and low temperature can cause stem and root rot.
