Eonium is an unusually decorative plant that does not require special care, which, oddly enough, rarely decorates the windowsills of city apartments.

Eonium is called the ever-living succulent for its special endurance and unpretentiousness. Originally from this unusual exotic from East Africa, grows in the Canaries and the Mediterranean.

Among the many varieties there are mini trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials. Each natural variety and hybrid follower is distinctive and unique.

Names, description of species and photos

Schwarzkopf (Schwarzkopf)

Schwarzkopf - a hybrid variety of aeonium, bred at the end of the 20th century. Refers to hardy succulents. Natural varieties live in North America, on the Canary Islands. The variety is called Black Rose because of the exotic colors of the leaves. The bush is sprawling, well branched.

The stem has a light brown shade, the height is up to 50 - 60 cm. Rosettes are large, densely planted with leaves. The leaves are pointed, along the edge of the leaves are pubescent with rare gray hairs - cilia. The surface of the leaves is smooth, glossy.

The main feature of the variety is the dark bard color of the leaf plate. The color is dense, saturated, with a blackish velvet tint. The base of the leaves is a deep green hue.

The leaves themselves are narrow, oblong. The variety likes sunny places, prefers sandy soils, perfectly adapts to the apartment.

The variety does not tolerate stagnation of air, frequent ventilation of the room is recommended, good ventilation.

Haworth or Kiwi (Percarneum cv. "Kiwi" or Haworthii)

One of the most undemanding succulents. A variety is commonly called aonium Haworth. The shrub is elegant, highly branched, low, up to 50 cm in height, grows sufficiently in diameter, up to 60 cm.

The flower is very decorative, stands out from all hybrids with juicy, dense leaves - pillows.

The leaves are pointed, light green, with a grayish tint, bordered at the edges by a saturated pink strip. The core of the outlet is bright green. The leaf length of an adult flower is up to 8 cm, width is up to 2 - 3 cm. The leaves are collected in a lush, loose rosette. A distinctive feature of the variety is the presence of aerial roots on the lateral branches - processes.

Flowering haworth spring. The flowers themselves are yellow with a pink tint. The variety is unpretentious, does not like frequent transplants, usually transplanted once every 2 to 3 years. Propagated by seeds and cuttings.

Lindley (Lindleyi)

Perennial graceful succulent. The height of an adult bush is up to 25 - 30 cm. The stem at the base is dense, lignified. The branches are narrow, grow in large numbers, curved, brown. The outlet is small, neat, combines several bulk chubby leaves.

Leaves are miniature, lobed, dense, shiny.

Lindley's feature is a barely noticeable hair covering. Leaves give off sticky, aromatic nectar.

The leaves sit tightly to each other, have a rich green color. Lindley blooms in spring. The flowers themselves are small, yellow, with a golden tint, combined into inflorescences - tassels. Brushes grow slightly drooping. Propagated by cuttings, does not like frequent watering and high humidity.

Sedifolium (Aeonium Sedifolium)

The variety belongs to the smallest species of all indoor eoniums. Perennial succulent. The hybrid variety has several varieties - Eonium sedifolium X sims and other miniature sub-grades. The bush is branched, low, the height of an adult bush is up to 20 cm.

Sockets are elegant, miniature, in diameter reaches up to 2 - 2.5 cm. Leaflets are voluminous, shiny, covered with a pattern, sticky nectar is secreted.

Sedifolium is an unpretentious variety, tolerates drought well, prefers bright diffused light.

Propagated by cuttings, well rooted, quickly adapts. Frequent transplantation does not require sedifolium.

Noble (Nobile)

Large succulent - perennial. Differs in undersized, up to 15 - 20 cm trunk. The leaves are large, juicy, dense, freely located in a loose outlet. The diameter of the outlet reaches 50-60 cm. The leaves are smooth, shiny, heart-shaped, curved in the shape of a bowl.

Peduncle of the Noble aeonium of medium length, the inflorescences are umbrella-shaped, in May they produce many bright reddish flowers with a copper tint.

Flowering is long, lasts 3 to 4 weeks. Propagated by aeonium propagated by cuttings and seeds.. The inflorescences themselves have a spicy, well-defined aroma.

Burchardii

Hybrid species, maternal varieties grow in the Canary Islands. Perennial succulent is poorly studied in the literature, has a rather decorative appearance, is grown as a home flower (read about home care for aeonium here).

The stem is medium length, shiny, brown. The leaves are large, dense, dark green. Rosettes are loose, voluminous, grow up to 10 cm in diameter. The peduncle is long.

Inflorescences of Burkhard - panicles combine many bright yellow small flowers. Some varieties have orange flowers.

Burchard blooms in May, long flowering, more than a month. A loose nutrient substrate is required, drainage is required.

Virginian (Virgineum)

Hybrid variety, in natural conditions grows up to 1m in height. The stalk is short, almost invisible under open rosettes of leaves.

The leaves are fragrant, have a special soft structure - a hair covering. Outlets are in the form of openwork pillows.

Bright emerald leaves in the outlet are mosaic, tightly pressed against each other. Leaves at the base have a pale pink hue. Young leaves are slightly curved around the edges.

Wavy (Undulatum)

Long-term spectacular succulent. The stalk is straight, strong, has a small number of branches. The stalk is rough, has a silver tint, is streaked with brown scars. Rosettes are large, half-open, the leaves are tightly pressed.

The rosette of the corrugated aonium develops in diameter up to 30 - 40 cm. Rosettes are located at the top of the stems. The leaves are large, wide, narrow at the base, the edges of the leaves are wavy.

Decorative (Decorum)

Variety Decorative belongs to the most original perennials - succulents. The shrub is low, sprawling, grows up to 40 - 50 cm in height. The shoots are rough, scarred, close to each other.

Old leaves die off over time, leaving a diamond-shaped pattern on a sturdy, rough stem. Rosettes are elegant, miniature, similar to roses, placed on top of the stems. The pointed leaves are small, up to 2 - 3 cm in diameter.

The surface of the plate is smooth, has a soft pink hue against a bright green background. Peduncle elongated, grows up to 30 - 40 cm, pink. The flowers are small, delicately white, with a pink tint, combined into inflorescences - panicles.

This variety has many original hybrid sub-varieties. The most famous varieties are eonium red and green. At home, hybrids do not bloom, varieties are valued for decorative leaves.

Homemade (X domesticum)

It grows with a miniature tree up to 30 cm high. Numerous branches are dense, close to each other. The bush is compact. Shoots move away from the main strong trunk, at the top of the shoots branch, bend.

The leaves are dark green, narrowed at the base, toward the apex - wide lobes slightly bent inward. Leaves of medium size - 2 cm in length and 1 - 1.5 cm in width.

Canary (Canariensis)

The variety has a characteristic feature - it blooms for 2 years after planting. After flowering, the bush gradually dies. In apartment conditions, it practically does not bloom. Propagated by seeds. Small seeds have good germination - germinate within a week.

Balsamic (Balsamiferum)

Succulent - perennial has the form of a strong, well-branched tree up to 50 cm high. Branches are shoots sprawling, woody, rough structure, golden brown.

On the tops of Balsamic aonium are small elegant sockets. Rosettes are slightly concave, loose, light green. Leaflets are tightly pressed in the core of the outlet itself. At the base, the leaf plate is narrowed, peaked at the top.

Lateral leaves are located in a cup shape. It usually blooms only in natural conditions. Long flowering, begins in May. Leaves of Balsamic Eonium exude a pronounced aroma.

Castello Pave (Castello-paivae)

Hybrid succulent, characterized by stunting. It grows no more than 20 - 30 cm in height. The stems branch well. The trunk is elegant, curved, thin. Rosettes are thick, loose, located at the very end of the shoots. The leaves are small, up to 2 - 3 cm long and 1 cm wide. The rosette is small, up to 4 - 5 cm in diameter. The leaves are dense, fleshy, juicy, green in color with a bluish-bluish tint.

In order for the leaves to retain color, bright diffused light is required throughout the year.

It multiplies well by leafy processes and seeds.

Marble (Marmoratus)

A short, sprawling bush with a height of not more than 20 cm. Refers to perennial plants. The stems of Marble Eonium curl well at the base. Rosettes are dense, loose, located on top of the stems. Rosettes are numerous, of medium size, up to 6 - 7 cm in diameter in an adult bush.
